The music was wonderful and lively as always. However, the casting felt somewhat mismatched. The principal male dancer, although technically capable, performed rather mechanically and lacked the charisma the role requires. His partner, who danced Kitri, seemed quite small for such a fiery character and slightly heavy-set for the demands of the principal variations. I also felt that some of the key technical elements of the choreography were missing, and several lifts that are usually part of the performance were not executed. Overall, the production felt quite disappointing and far from the level one would expect from performances at the Mariinsky Theatre
