We are giving away a pair of tickets to the 25th anniversary celebration of the Interactive Theatre International’s Faulty Towers the Dining Experience on Thursday 2 March 2023. The tickets come with a 3-course meal and 5-star comedy inspired by the BBC classic series, Fawlty Towers.

The show will play at Manchester’s Hotel Brooklyn on Portland Street, with performances from 24 February – 12 March 2023.

When the audience become diners in the ‘Faulty Towers’ restaurant, pretty much anything can happen – because 70% of the show is improvised. The fun starts as guests wait to be seated. It then hurtles along in a 2-hour tour de force of gags and shambolic service as Basil, Sybil and Manuel serve a ‘70s-style 3-course meal together with a good dollop of mayhem. Expect the unexpected!

“We’re thrilled beyond belief to be bringing the fun and chaos of our show to Manchester, and we have a great partner in the team from Hotel Brooklyn,” says Producer Jared Harford. “We know people still want to go out and enjoy themselves, while being conscious of rising costs – which is why an immersive show including dinner really is the best option for anyone looking for a spectacular night out in the centre of town.”

The show, which began in Australia, is a loving tribute to the 1970s sitcom, with diners getting to experience life in the chaotic hotel dining room. To date it has been seen by more than a million people in 41 countries, and is London’s longest running immersive experience.

The Manchester show features Suzanna Hughes as ‘Sybil’, Hayden Wood as ‘Basil’, and Leigh Kelly as ‘Manuel’, in the roles made famous by Connie Booth, John Cleese and Andrew Sachs.

“This show is lots of fun and I’m sure it’ll bring plenty of laughs to the diners,” says Regional General Manager at Hotel Brooklyn, Paul Bayliss MBE MI FIH. “And of course it’s a great name for the event as every hotel and restaurant gets accused of being Fawlty Towers, so here’s the proof!”

In difficult times we can all do with a laugh to lighten our spirits. And the Liverpool Hope Playwriting Prize is offering £10,000 for a winning comedy script.

The competition, now in its fourth year, is the second largest national playwriting competition and provides a great platform for new comedy plays and writers across the UK.

Previous winners include Katie Mulgrew, Simon Bradbury and last year’s winner, Colin Downland whose script ‘Headless’, set in a primary school on the morning of an Ofsted inspection, is now in development with Liverpool’s Royal Court.

2019 winner Colin Downland

In addition to the winner’s prize of £10,000, further cash prizes are available for commended scripts. Gerry Linford, who picked up a highly commended award, for his play, ‘The Miracle of Great Homer Street’ has since gone on to write three new plays produced by the Royal Court with a fourth planned.

Royal Court Executive Producer Kevin Fearon is looking forward to judging the competition. “We have been delighted to be involved with the Playwriting Prize since it began in 2015,” he says. “We have seen a huge number of entries for the previous competitions from all around the country and we are looking forward to doing it all again. The quality of the scripts has meant that the judging is always a difficult process but it means that the very best are chosen for the award”.

Other judges joining Kevin on the panel this year include: Dr John Bennett from Liverpool Hope University; writer Maurice Bessman; comedian and actor Les Dennis; talent agent Kate Haldane from PBJ Management, and Out of Joints Artistic Director, Kate Wasserberg.

Judges are looking for new full-length scripts for no more than 8 actors, with a story that has comedy at its heart. The competition is open to anyone over the age of 18 who lives in the UK or Republic of Ireland who has an original comedy script that hasn’t previously been performed.

The deadline for entries is 31 May 2020 and the winner and runner/s-up will be revealed at a ceremony in April 2021.

“There are huge numbers of people from all industries who know that they have a book, a song or a play in them and we are already seeing that creativity coming to the fore on social media,” Kevin adds. “Can you imagine if you took this time to get that play down on paper and it ended up winning you £10,000?”

We are giving away a pair of tickets to see Berlin’s Max Raabe & Palast Orchester at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester on Friday 6 March 2020.

In just three weeks, million selling crooner Max Raabe and the hugely talented Palast Orchester from Berlin will present their debut UK Tour.

The internationally acclaimed singer and musicians promise to take audiences back in time on a musical journey of romance and sophistication, revisiting the ‘Roaring Twenties’ a century on from what was an exciting new era for music, dance, style, and fashion.

Max Raabe Palast Orchetser ©Majid Moussavi

Now it’s the turn of the UK to experience the warmth, charm and elegance of Max Raabe & Palast Orchester first-hand with tour dates in Eastbourne, London, Birmingham, and Manchester which form part of a wider international tour.

Max Raabe & Palast Orchester open their UK tour on Tuesday 3 March 2020 at the Congress Theatre in Eastbourne; followed by London’s Cadogan Hall on Wednesday 4 March 2020; Symphony Hall in Birmingham on Thursday 5 March 2020; and Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall on Friday 6 March 2020.

Formed in the 1980s, the then group of college friends have since grown into a hugely successful 13-piece ensemble – becoming one of Germany’s biggest selling acts, winning praise, rave reviews, and a legion of fans across the globe.

Max Raabe & Palast Orchester are well-respected in Germany, having dominated the music charts for many years while staying true to their unique style and genre.

They recently released a new MTV Unplugged album which went straight into the Top 10 in the German pop charts – reaching Number 2 in early January 2020, alongside Robbie Williams, Coldplay and Leonard Cohen with places at the top of the charts.

MaxRaabe © Gregor-Hohenberg

Stylish 57-year-old Max Raabe is famous for performing while impeccably dressed in white tie and tails, and is joined by 12 musical maestros from the Palast Orchester.

Dashing, dapper and debonair, Max believes the timeless melodies and songs of the 1920s and 1930s have an inherent magic. He combines nostalgic flair with pop-star appeal, along with a good dose of self-irony and dry comedy.

The tour is timely given the nation’s fascination with all things vintage, including Downtown Abbey, Gosford Park and Brideshead Revisited.

Together, Max and the orchestra present the most stunning classic and timeless repertoire in their original arrangements. With a distinctive sound, audiences will be captivated by Max Raabe & Palast Orchester as they are transported to yesteryear to experience high style and musical glory in the most sumptuous way – making this show one of a kind, and the hottest ticket in town.

Max Raabe band

Max Raabe was born 1962 in Lünen and has always sung – from the youth choir to even on his bicycle. He moved to Berlin in his early twenties to study opera. He financed his studies with small performances, and in 1986 he founded the Palast Orchester with a number of fellow students. They are now the worldwide leading band of music from the era of the Weimar Republic.

Max has received numerous awards for his commitment to remembering the music of the 1920s and 1930s, including the ECHO Classic in 2000 for his interpretation of Mack The Knife; Paul-Lincke-Ring Of The City Of Goslar in 2005; the cultural prize of his hometown Lünen in 2007; and the Order Of Merit Of The State Of Berlin in 2012.

Their appeal is diverse and far reaching. Max Raabe and the Palast Orchester performed at the star-studded wedding of singer Marilyn Manson and model Dita Von Teese at a castle in Ireland in 2005.

Max Raabe.
The show will feature diverse range of music and songs including the hilarious Rosa, Reizende Rosa (Rosa, Ravishing Rosa); romantic tune Tonight Or Never; the classic Kurt Weill’s Mack The Knife; alongside standards including I Won’t Dance, Night And Day, and Sweet Sue.

These first UK tour dates will give music fans the opportunity to experience the sights, sounds and atmosphere of this very special show and era before Max and the musicians continue on a worldwide international tour visiting Austria, Canada, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and the United States Of America – including the iconic Carnegie Hall in New York this April.

WE’RE GOING TO SEE A BEAR
HUNT

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL PLAY!

WE’RE NOT SCARED!

We are giving away a family ticket to see the smash-hit production of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt on tour, when it comes to The Lowry this summer.

The show returns direct from the West End, vividly and noisily in director Sally Cookson’s fun-filled adaptation set to Benji Bower’s versatile lively score.

Join our intrepid family of adventurers and their musical dog on a quest to find a bear; as they wade through the gigantic swishy swashy grass, the splishy splashy river and the thick oozy, squelchy mud! Expect catchy songs, interactive scenes, plenty of adventure and a few surprises along the way.

Based on the much-loved picture book by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury, this mischievous celebration of play is the perfect treat for families with children aged 3 and up.

We’ve got a pair of weekend tickets to
giveaway for Cheshire Fest, which returns to Cheadle Hulme this summer with a
packed-programme of family entertainment, live music, food and drink.

The two-day family-friendly festival is twice
as big this year, featuring the region’s finest new talent and a fantastic
line-up of the UK’s best tribute acts across both days.

70s Stones

The main stage will host leading tributes
to the Killers, Kasabian, Bruno Mars, Little Mix, Queen, Pink and The Rolling
Stones.

The Fillers and Kazabian will play on
Saturday 1 June when the ‘Big Hitters’ theme promises a line-up of rock ‘n’
roll, indie pop and festival favourite inspired artists. They join headliners
Kings Ov Leon, along with The Phonics (Stereophonics) and Tina Turner tribute Totally
Tina. The Sunday line-up includes The Stones and Vicky Jackson as Pink, Queen
tribute Flash, Bruno – A Tribute To Bruno Mars and Little Mix tribute band
Little Fix.

Kazabian Live

In addition to the Main Stage line-up the
festival has added an acoustic stage with a line-up of more than 20 homegrown
talent and rising stars of music performing a mix of original material and
well-known classics.

The line-up
includes Mancunian Indie folk artist David Gorman with a set featuring catchy
melodies and heartfelt lyrics, mixed with delicate guitar; singer songwriter
Jack Woodward, who released his second EP Higher to acclaim in 2018; rising
star Jess Kemp, whose music has been featured on BBC Introducing and Radio 2; while
Chris Tavener promises witty lyrics and a vintage sound.

festivalgoers the chance to chill-out in relaxing family friendly environment.

A new show
celebrating the life and musical talent of legendary American singer songwriter
Paul Simon heads to Bolton in April and we have a pair of tickets to giveaway

In this
poignant and critically acclaimed show, Liverpool singer songwriter Gary Edward
Jones takes to the stage to tell the unique story of one of his idols,
combining visuals, stage design, storytelling and, of course, that iconic music
and incredible songs.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="700" height="560" src="https://quayslife.com/storage/2019/02/Something-About-Simon-2-credit-Anthony-Robling.jpg" alt="Something About Simon. Credit Anthony Robling

A natural
storyteller, with charisma and warm Liverpudlian charm, Gary weaves together
songs and stories that cross the Atlantic, from New Jersey to the North West of
England.

The show is billed as honouring the musician and his music rather than a traditional tribute show. It follows Simon’s career from his early global success with duo Simon and Garfunkel to his incredible solo career, which included 13 multi-million selling albums and 16 Grammy Awards. And alongside tales from Simon’s life the evening includes a string of his hits from ballads like, The Sound of Silence, America and Kathy’s Song, to the more upbeat Me And Julio, 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover and Wristband.

The show premiered in Liverpool, where it enjoyed a successful two-night pilot run at the Epstein Theatre in Autumn 2018. And after receiving 5-star reviews producer Bill Elms is lining up more dates across the region. “Feedback from the pilot run was incredible an inspiring, and it made us even more determined to take the story on the road, where it belongs,” says Bill.

Performer Gary adds: “We thoroughly enjoyed the creative process for Something About Simon, taking the show from paper to rehearsals to stage. We were completely overwhelmed by the audience response, and now we cannot wait for the next phase in the show’s development – first stop the Albert Halls in Spring.”

We are
giving away a family ticket to Regal Entertainments’ smash hit production of
Beauty and the Beast at The Stockport Plaza in April.

Channel 5 Milkshake’s Kiera-Nicole Brennan leads the cast as the show’s Beauty heroine, Belle who falls for the unlikeliest of princes, who has been cursed into the form of a hideous Beast.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="700" height="466" src="https://quayslife.com/storage/2019/02/BATB-6-Credit-David-Munn-Photography.jpg" alt="Beauty and the Beast.
Also competing for Belle’s heart is Philip McGuinness as the brutish Gaston. Lewis Devine, whose previous comic panto roles include Buttons in Cinderella, and as Muddles in Snow White at St Helens Theatre Royal, is all set to cause mayhem and mischief as French Frank. Sarah Walker adds extra sparkle as Fairy Rose. And the hilarious, Si Foster completes the cast as Potty Polly.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="700" height="466" src="https://quayslife.com/storage/2019/02/BATB-9-Credit-David-Munn-Photography.jpg" alt="Beauty and the Beast.
Beauty and the Beast Producer, Chantelle Nolan says: “We’re very excited
to be bringing this production of Beauty and the Beast to Stockport. The show
went down a storm at St Helens Theatre Royal during October half-term so we can
guarantee a magical panto time at Stockport for Easter 2019.”

This enchanting
version of the classic fairy-tale is part of a growing trend for Easter
pantomimes and has all the comedy, songs and audience interaction you’d expect from
a traditional festive version.

As Valentine’s Day approaches we’re sharing the love by giving away a pair of tickets to see one of the most romantic movies of all time, Titanic, alongside a host of loved-up extras at the all new Valentine’s Movie Experience.

Building on the success of the Magical Christmas Movie Experience in December, Mayfield Depot has been transformed into a romantic hideaway, guaranteed to get you in the mood for love.

The former railway depot near Piccadilly, is laying out the red carpet to everyone who wants to celebrate love and romance. And because you can never get too much loving, it’s welcoming couples not just for one night, but five, starting on Wednesday 13 February.

Titanic trailer

The evening begins with a romantic walk through a snow-kissed forest to reach the pop-up cinema. There is warm welcome from a live band playing love songs. And for Dirty Dancing fans there is an added bonus at each of its three film screenings over the festival, where you can pick up tips on how to recreate some of the film’s flirty dancefloor moves with live dancers mirroring the on-screen action.

Music may be the food of love, but the venue hasn’t forgotten your taste buds. And once inside, there is a tasty array of street food for sale, including woodfired pizzas and Jamaican barbecue, gourmet burgers and hot dogs. As well as exclusive candy-floss roses to put the sweet in to sweet-heart.

If you want to mimic a night in on a night out, there are bean-bag seats where you can take a hot drink or cocktail and snuggle-up under a cosy blanket to watch the film. Choice of movies include the Oscar-winning smash hit, Titanic starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet; Pretty Woman featuring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts; Beauty & The Beast with Emma Watson; and Notting Hill with Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts.

And on Valentine’s Day (Thursday 14 February) there is a double bill of The Bodyguard with Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston, followed by Dirty Dancing starring Patrick Swayze.
